Jean Leering en de kunst - 'Het gaat om heel eenvoudige dingen'

Diana Franssen Curator & Head of Research Van Abbemuseum;

With great pleasure I would like to bring the following book to your attention: 'Het gaat om heel eenvoudige dingen': Jean Leering en de kunst. It is an extensive, very readable biography about Jean Leering; a passionate idealist, teacher, writer, activist and above all former director of the Van Abbemuseum. His ideas about reaching the public through a reform of the museological function would become one of the spearheads of his policy. In collaboration with many, including designer Jan van Toorn and educational coordinator Wies van Moorsel, he tried to bring the museum literally into society. He also took this into account in his innovative exhibition policy. Paul Kemper gives us an animated look behind the scenes of the museum in development. He also immerses himself in the ideas of Leering and shows us the voyage of discovery - in all up and downs - that was made by this passionate personality. This book is an important deepening of the chapter on Jean Leering in the 2005 publication by René Pingen. Dat museum is een mijnheer. De geschiedenis van het Van Abbemuseum 1936-2003.
